YOU CAN MAKE A CHANGE

IN THE LIFE

OF ONE CAT TODAY

THE ISSUE

The issue here is the overpopulation of stray cats in New York City. Taking them all into shelter doesn’t work out, it isn't the only right solution. That is because of the 14,000 cats adopted each year 4,000 are euthanized. The shelter just does not have the resources or space to take in and help all the cats, a lot of pe people to have not stepped up to help them either. In shelters, cats just wait for until someone either adopts them or they are put down. Out in the city, strays are surviving but they could be doing a lot better. There is a huge amount of stray cats, they are starving most of the time, enduring terrible weather conditions, and in some cases, they are poisoned by humans nearby who want to get rid of them. Conditions for them are not ideal, however, because they are animals they continue to reproduce at a fast rate. That’s where TNR (Trap-NEuter-Return) comes into play. If feral cats, are natural and there turned into the wild, they will no longer reproduce and the population of feral cats will not decrease. This way, as time passes, less and fewer cats will have to suffer.

PROJECT PLAN

There are a lot of feral cats in New York. Our plan is to help the Bideawee organization get funding in order to achieve their goal. We also intend to raise awareness about this issue, as the feral cat issue can eventually affect everyone. If the cat population was to increase, that would mean more hostile cats that can damage human property, and possibly even attack humans. Feral Bideawee, traps and neuters stray cats. They also try and find homes for the cats that they have neutered, instead of just simply returning them to their original environment. This is very rare though if we find kittens we will help find them homes. With strays, we will return them to where they were found, it sounds a bit harsh but that is how TNR works. They, however, are in need of funding. We want to raise money that will all go towards funding our chosen organization.

Originally, our plan was to raise money through bake sales and the sale of other trinkets, like pins and keychains. However, due to the current pandemic, we have decided to instead create and sell custom masks. Additionally, some money has to be raised for cat food, and cat traps, in order to about TNR successfully. We intend to advertise our cause on social media, and we want to spread awareness of the Bideawee group in order to try and get more funding for them. We also want to help the organization in their process with the cats, by (maybe) helping them look for stray cats they take in, and then helping them take care of them whenever it’s possible.
